* Hearing: It means listening to catch what the speaker is saying
* Understanding: Taking what u have heard and understand it in your own way.
* Judging: After hearing, think whether you have heard makes sense.

5. Practice listening
- Listening is twice as hard as talking coz we have two ears but one mouth.
A. Listen with your face
- Change body language – from deflector to receiver because our face acts like
receptive equipment and so we must adjust our faces.
- Use other bodily receptors – eyes pick up the non-verbal signs in conversation by looking at
the speaker because our eyes complete the communication circuit established between
speaker and listener.
- React to messages – face must show emotions to indicate we are following what speaker is
saying and should act like an active catcher of information.
- Concentrate on speaker’s saying – open mind must be kept while listening.

- Eye contact with speaker – Eyes keep us focused and involved in the speech.
- Focus on content not delivery – ignore mannerisms of speaker.
- Avoid emotional involvement – due to emotionally being involved, we hear what we want to
hear not what is actually said.
- Avoid distractions – don’t let mind be distracted by any person near you.
- Concentrate – on what is said to process the information.
- Stay active – by asking mental questions.
