HCL-U2-635%20.jpg

HCL has launched three new Android tablets in the Indian market, expanding its HCL ME range. The three 7-inch tablets, ME U2, ME V1 and Y3 have been priced at Rs 5,999, Rs. 7,999 and Rs. 11,999, respectively, and run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The ME Y3 is a Dual- SIM (GSM) tablet.

The ME U2 only offers Wi-Fi connectivity, however it does support 3G data cards. The ME U2 has a 1GHz Cortex A9 processor with a Mali-400 graphics card and 1GB DDR3 RAM. Its 7-inch WVGA display has a resolution of 800X480 pixels. The tablet has a 3000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery. It doesn't sport a rear camera, however, a 0.3-Megapixel front camera is present.

The tablet comes with 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot through which storage can be expanded up to 32GB. The ME U2, unlike its other siblings, does include the Google Play app store.

The ME V1 also offers support for voice calling and the company is even pitching it as a phablet. Unfortunately, it doesn't support 3G data transfer and users can only browse the Internet over Edge/GPRS (or over Wi-Fi) unless they plug in a 3G data card. The ME V1 sports a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor with a GC430 graphics card and 1GB DDR3 RAM. Its 7-inch WVGA display has a resolution of 800X480 pixels.

The tablet has a 3200 mAh Lithium Polymer battery. It has a 2-Megapixel back camera and a 0.3-Megapixel front camera. The tablet comes with 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot through which storage can be expanded up to 32GB. It also has a Mini HDMI port. It's noteworthy that this particular tablet does not feature the Google Play app store, and users will only be able to download apps through HCL's own ME App Store.

The ME Y3 is a dual-SIM tablet with dual standby support. One of the two SIMs also offers support for 3G data, voice and video calling. The ME Y3 sports a 1GHz Cortex A9 processor with a built-in 3D graphics card and 1GB DDR3 RAM. Its 7-inch WSVGA display has a resolution of 1024X600 pixels.

The tablet has a 3100 mAh Lithium Polymer battery. It has a 3.2-Megapixel back camera and a 0.3-Megapixel front camera. The tablet comes with 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot through which storage can be expanded up to 32GB.

HTC, Move over megapixels, HTC to launch 4.3 'ultrapxiel' camera sensor with M7: Report

htc-mobiles.jpg

HTC is expected to launch its next flagship smartphone M7 at an event on February 19. The device has been in the news for quite some time now. According to Pocket-Lint, HTC M7's camera will ditch megapixels and will have something that the company dubs as "ultrapixels."It was earlier rumoured that M7 will come aboard with a 13-megapixel rear shooter. However, Pocket-Lint claims that this smartphone will feature a camera that will be made up of three 4.3-megapixel sensor layers, which will be combined to give a resulting single image. It is expected that the pictures clicked through this camera would be crisper, cleaner and have a better colour accuracy.
This technique is also adopted by Sigma in the Foveon X3 sensor. In 2012, we had seen Nokia experiment with their camera sensor on Nokia 808 PureView smartphone and the result was 41-megapixel monster. It is expected that Nokia will be launching Lumia smartphones with a similar lenssometime this year.
HTC is claiming that it will be offering new sound and camera experience in 2013. So now that camera bit is solved, we are still curious to know what new the Taiwanese maker is planning to offer on the sound front. It is noteworthy, that HTC has partnered with Beats Audio in 2011 and all its Android smartphone come with the same.
So guess we will have to wait a bit longer to know more about this mystery. But from the earlier rumours, what we do know is that HTC M7 will have a 4.7-inch 1080p full-HD screen, 1.7GHz quad-core processor. It is expected to run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) along with a layer of Sense 5.0 UI. This smartphone was recently showcased by their CEO at a year-end party.
This smartphone is expected to go on sale in UK from March 8. The folks at PhoneArena have managed to get their hands on two images that show this device listed on Vodafone Germany's inventory system.
It is expected that HTC may launch two more smartphones HTC M4 and G2 at the London event or perhaps at the MWC

Could 3D printers build a future moon base? Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/02/04/could-3d-printers-build-future-moon-base/#ixzz2K0rL2Yes

The technology behind 3D printing has allowed users to craft musical instruments and prosthetic limbs, and now European scientists are taking a serious look at printing their own moon base.
The European Space Agency (ESA) study is investigating how practical constructing a manned base on the moon only using 3D printing technology could be, given that it would rely primarily on lunar dirt for building materials.
"Terrestrial 3D printing technology has produced entire structures," Laurent Pambaguian, who heads the project for ESA, said in a statement. "Our industrial team investigated if it could similarly be employed to build a lunar habitat."

Pambaguian's team partnered with the London-based architecture firm Foster + Partners to draw up ideas for a 3D-printed moon colony. [See photos of the 3D-printed moon base ]
"As a practice, we are used to designing for extreme climates on Earth and exploiting the environmental benefits of using local, sustainable materials," Xavier De Kestelier of Foster + Partners said in a statement. "Our lunar habitation follows a similar logic."
Foster + Partners' 3D printed design is a simple four-person moon base that can be made completely out of repurposed moon dirt, which scientists call "regolith."
Because the entire design is made primarily from indigenous lunar materials moon, there is no need to transport costly materials from the Earth into space. The base would be built using a robotic printer roving over an inflatable dome.
"3D printing offers a potential means of facilitating lunar settlement with reduced logistics from Earth," Scott Hovland of ESA’s human spaceflight team said. "The new possibilities this work opens up can then be considered by international space agencies as part of the current development of a common exploration strategy."

The base would have a cell-like but strong frame resembling the structure of bird bones that will protect lunar residents from gamma radiation and micrometeorites that could destroy a less robust build.
ESA and the agency's partners have already built part of the base. Using a mixture of silicon, aluminum, calcium, iron and magnesium oxides meant to simulate regolith — a mixture of dust and dirt — found on the moon, ESA and its partners printed a 2,205-pound (1,000 kilograms) piece of what part of the home could look like.
"The planned site for the base is at the moon’s southern pole, where there is near perpetual sunlight on the horizon," officials for Foster and Partners said in a statement.
The firm has started trying out the 3D printer in conditions similar to those on the surface of the moon. The team has started printing various structures inside a vacuum chamber.
This isn't the first time a space agency has considered 3D printing a lunar base  . Last year, NASA officials challenged researchers at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. to 3D print the ceramic-like simulated lunar regolith into smooth, cylindrical shapes to test the strength of the material.
Foster + Partners is also partnering with other firms to build the first private spaceport in the world. Known as Spaceport America, the $209 million base will serve as a hub for commercial spaceflight. The spaceport should be completed later this year.
