MOBILE - Samsung Galaxy S II Plus unveiled with Jelly Bean, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor

In a rather oddly timed announcement, the successor to the Galaxy S II has arrived in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus with an overhauled design, the latest Android OS and a new chipset.

Running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Nature UX atop, the Galaxy S II Plus sports a 4.3-inch WVGA(480x800) Super AMOLED Plus display as seen in the earlier Galaxy S II. Look wise, the exterior of the device has been replaced with the plasticky back panel as seen on the Galaxy S III.

The device features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and capable of full-HD video recording. There's a 2-megapixel front camera as well.

On the inside,the smartphone is powered by a dual-core Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a Broadcomm GPU and has 1GB RAM. The internal storage has been skimmed down to 8GB but microSD support upto 64GB will be available.

Connectivity wise, the S II Plus boasts dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0+HS and 3G with 21Mbps HSPA+. NFC is optional on the device. The S II Plus without it is 8.5mm thick while the NFC-enabled I9105P is slightly thicker at 8.9mm. The device also weighs 5gms more than its predecessor at 121gms. Battery capacity, however, remains the same at 1,650mAh.

The S II Plus comes loaded with company's proprietary apps like ChatOn messenger, AllShare Play, Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Popup Video, S-Voice and S Beam. Users can also enjoy all the benefits of Samsung Hubs, including the latest versions of Readers Hub, Video Hub, Game Hub and Music Hub.

The smartphone will be available in Chic White and Dark Blue colours. Details regarding pricing and availability are unknown but we expect they will be announced soon.

HEALTH : Now, headphones that you can wear like headband to bed

Researchers have created a headband with built in earphones could help us sleep more soundly and easily.

The SleepPhones are a fabric band with earphones built in - and its makers claim you can even use them without waking a partner sleeping next to you, the Daily Mail reported.

Current versions have a wire to connect to a phone, but a wireless version, set to go on sale in April, has just won a prestigious awards at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“Being able to sleep soundly is crucial to feeling well overall, and SleepPhones help by playing relaxing audio, drowning out noises, and establishing a positive bedtime routine,” Wei-Shin Lai, one of the inventors of the headphones said.

The firm began selling the product in 2007, when Lai was working as a doctor.

The firm is now set to introduce its first wireless version, selling for 50 pounds in April.

“There’s a version of our product for sports, a version for sleep, and now a wireless version that eliminates cords entirely by playing back media from any Bluetooth-enabled device,” Lai said.

The current version has a wire so it can be plugged into an iPod or bedside alarm, but the next version will be wireless, the firm said...
