Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 image leaked, likely to compete with iPad mini

samsung-galaxy-note-8.0-image.jpg

Samsung's chief of Mobile Communications JK Shin, seems to have passed on information claiming that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will debut at the Mobile World Congress next month. Now, a leaked press image of the device has been posted by Twitter user @Clasificatearg that lists the specifications of the Note 8.0.

From the looks of it, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will compete head on with Apple's iPad mini. The specs listed in the image seem to be in line with previous rumours mentioning an 8-inch 1280x800 display as opposed to iPad mini's display 1024x768 across 7.9-inches. That's as close as it can get.

Other specs listed include a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2GB RAM, options of 16/32GB as internal storage, 5-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front cameras, HSPA+ and LTE support and the famed S-Pen.

As far as the processor is concerned, things seem a bit out of place. Is it just an upgraded version of the Exynos 4 as seen in the Note 10.1 instead of the newly announced Exynos 5 Octa chipset? Considering these are just speculations, we'd wait for the final details to be announced soon.

Design wise, the Note 8.0 seems to look like a hybrid of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 featuring an S-Pen to seal the deal. The device is also not one of Samsung's next generation devices, rather a product between the Note II and the Note 10.1.

Other rumoured specs for the device indicate that it is likely to run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and connectivity options may include Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and A-GPS. It is expected to come with a 4,600mAh battery.

There are also speculations doing the rounds that Samsung may launch two versions of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 - Samsung GT-N5100, which will be a 3G+Wi-Fi version and the GT-N5110, which will be a Wi-Fi only version.

So far things look good for the Korean manufacturer and we'd certainly hope to see the Galaxy Note 8.0 at MWC in February with more details regarding price and availability.

BOLLYWOOD, Urvashi Dholakia wins 'Bigg Boss 6' title

Urvashi Dholakia beat Imam Siddiqui in the finale to win the season 6 of Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan
The show came to a star-studded end as Urvashi bagged the Rs.50 lakh award. She emerged out of the locked house after three months, and her family - her mother, and two children, stood in the audience to welcome her.
Urvashi Dholakia

Urvashi, best remembered as Komolika of "Kasautii Zindagii Kay", was in tears. She is the third female winner of the show in row, after Shweta Tiwari and Juhi Parmar, who won the fourth and fifth seasons, respectively.

"Thank you," she said upon her exit.

She was among the 15 contestants who entered the "Bigg Boss" house in October 2012, and managed to stay in the top four, with Imam, Sana Khan and Niketan Madhok occupying the remaining positions respectively.

Urvashi displayed a strong winning chance ever since she entered the show. She was appreciated for her upfront and honest attitude, was a smart player and always stood up for the right.

She often got involved in verbal spats with Imam, Sapna Bhavnani and Delnaaz Irani, but she patched up with them, creating amicable relations with everyone on the show.

The finale, hosted by "Dabangg" hero Salman Khan, had celebrities like Prabhudheva, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor in attendance.

It was high on entertainment quotient with Salman's spicy performance on popular number "Pandeyji seeti" from his movie "Dabangg 2".

Prabhudheva, who had directed the superstar in "Wanted", appeared on the show with choreographer-turned-director Remo D'Souza to promote their upcoming film "ABCD: AnyBody Can Dance". The trio shook a leg together on the music from "ABCD...".

Emraan used the platform to promote his new film "Ek Thi Daayan", while Tusshar and actress Neha Dhupia came to promote their new reality comedy show "Nautanki: The Comedy Theatre".

The former contestants of the current season of the show also entertained viewers. While celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani and Bhojpuri actor Dinesh Yadav, Vishal Karwal and Karishma Kotak performed a water act together, Vrajesh Hirjee went inside the house and mocked the contestants.

Item girl Yana Gupta entered the "Bigg Boss" house in a cage and performed on the song "Aa zara", from "Murder 2". Popular TV actresses Rati Pandey, Keerti Nagpure, Pooja Gor and Rashmi Desai also performed on the show.

Unlike previous seasons, the sixth season of "Bigg Boss" promised to be 'Alag che' (different), by catering to a family audience. Though it lived up to the promise to a considerable extent, the show indeed saw some ugly spats between Rajev Paul and Imam, and Delnaaz and Urvashi.

BOLLYWOOD, Actress-VJ Sophiya Haque passes away in London

Former VJ-turned actress Sophiya Haque died on Thursday in London after being diagnosed with cancer

Haque was believed to be suffering from pneumonia and had been undergoing tests during which she is believed to have developed a clot in her lungs and passed away in her sleep.
The model-actress, who lived in London with her partner and musical director David White, had fallen ill just before Christmas and was diagnosed with cancer.

Haque, 41, was born to an English mother and a Bangladeshi father, shot to fame in India during the 1990s during her stint as a video jockey for a couple of popular music channels.
Haque was a popular stage and television actress in Britain. She recently made her mark on prime-time TV as barmaid Poppy Morales on the well-known soap 'Coronation Street' and was in the midst of a West End production called Privates on Parade.
"Sophiya was a wonderful actress, a wonderful client but so much more than that a wonderful friend. She was adored by everyone she worked with and will be deeply missed," said her agent, Oliver Thomson.
He described Haque's relationship with White as "very happy" and the couple were in the process of building a houseboat together when she fell ill.
Haque hit the big league in Britain when she bagged the role of a Bollywood actress in the Andrew Lloyd Webber and AR Rahman musical ‘Bombay Dreams’. This led to a number of plum roles in musicals, including as Janoo Rani in Far Pavilions and most recently as Soraya in Wah! Wah! Girls, described as a good-natured Bollywood musical by critics last year.
In Privates on Parade, which opened in Britain last month, she was praised for her role of Eurasian Sylvia opposite one of Britain's leading stage actors, Simon Russell Beale.
She had acted in Bollywood films like 'The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey', 'Pehli Nazar Ka Pehla Pyaar: Love at First Sight', 'Snip' and some others.
The news of her death stunned the entertainment world and they took the micro-blogging site to express their grief and shock.

BOLLYWOOD, Anupama Chopra's review: Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

Anushka Sharma and Imran Khan will be seen romancing onscreen for the first time in Vishal Bhardwaj's next Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola. The film is a comedy drama film written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
Matru ki bijlee ka mandola
Direction: Vishal Bhardwaj
Actors: Pankaj Kapoor, Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma, Arya Babbar, Shabana Azmi
Rating: **1/2  A Vishal Bhardwaj film is guaranteed to evoke a strong reaction. You can love
it – as I did Maqbool and Kaminey – or dislike it, as I think most people did 7 Khoon Maaf. But you can’t be indifferent. So I am a little disappointed to report that Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola didn’t stir up any keen emotions in me. Parts of the film soar but many are saggy and ultimately I was just underwhelmed. The film begins with a singularly delectable image – a stretch limousine standing in a field.
Its owner is the superbly drunk Mandola (played by Pankaj Kapoor), a feudal landlord, the undisputed king of a village somewhere in Haryana. Mandola is actually two men – a wily, ambitious, insatiably greedy businessman when sober, and a generous rabble-rouser when drunk. Early in the film, a slurring Mandola hilariously incites a morcha against himself. His man Friday, Matru, played by Imran Khan, is a law graduate who is back in the village because he couldn’t find another job. Matru is in love with Bijlee, played by Anushka Sharma, Mandola’s Oxford-returned daughter. I couldn’t figure out why she had to be Oxford-returned since, mostly, she just wanders around aimlessly. Add to this a corrupt minister, Chaudhari Devi (played by Shabana Azmi), and her imbecile son Baadal (played by Arya Babbar) and you have a simmering cauldron of memorable characters. But sadly, this doesn’t translate into a memorable movie. Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola is designed to be purposefully eccentric. After all this is a film in which a smiling pink buffalo plays a pivotal part. Some of this, especially the buffalo, is inventive and great fun. But the screenplay, co-written by Vishal and Abhishek Chaubey, tries to marry whimsy with a serious narrative about land-grabbing, exploited farmers and the ugly truth behind the new, shining India.
It’s ambitious but also indulgent and inconsistent in tone, making the film a jerky ride. Some stretches are clunky, but just when you’re starting to get restless a terrific scene grabs you – like Chaudhari Devi’s creepily mesmerising monologue on why corruption is essential. Azmi is wonderful, as is Kapoor, who manages to be, in equal parts, childlike, endearing and nasty. But the big surprise is Imran Khan, who sheds his urban, chocolate boy baggage. It’s an exciting transformation. Despite this, Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola feels like a puzzle in which all the pieces don’t fit. Its idiosyncrasies are both its strength and its undoing.

HEALTH, -1 in 6 cases of adult asthma caused by workplace environments

There are many occupations that are thought to cause asthma in adults, according to researchers.
In a new study, the start of asthma in adulthood was clearly linked to 18 types of job, and the strongest evidence seems to be for jobs involving cleaning or cleaning agents.
The researchers base their findings on the job histories up to the age of 42 of almost 7,500 British adults born in 1958, all of whom were taking part in the National Child Development Study, which is tracking the long term health of more than 11,000 people living in Britain.
Information about symptoms of asthma or wheezy bronchitis was collected at the ages of 7, 11, 16, 33 and 42 from 9,500 participants.
After excluding 2,000 who had these symptoms before the age of 16, the remainder were tested for sensitivity to allergens and their lung power between the ages of 42 to 45. Participants were also asked about their work history at the ages of 33 and 42.
Their exposure to compounds known to be associated with asthma was calculated using the Asthma Specific Job Exposure Matrix (ASJEM). This assigns workplace exposure to 18 different high risk antigens, environments, and respiratory irritants.
One in four were smokers by the age of 42, when the cumulative prevalence of asthma that had started in adulthood was 9 per cent. Most (87 per cent) were in employment at age 42, and over half (55 per cent) had office jobs.
Around one in four participants had only ever worked in a job that
was zero risk, according the ASJEM. Just under one in 10 (8 per cent) had ever been exposed to high risk agents; while a further 28percent had ever been exposed to low risk agents. Around one in three (34 per cent) had ever been exposed to both.
The types of job linked to asthma, include farming, which more than quadrupled the risk, hairdressing, which almost doubled the risk, and printing, which tripled the risk.
Four of these 18 jobs were cleaning jobs, and a further three were likely to involve exposure to cleaning agents.
After taking account of factors likely to influence the results, people exposed to low risk agents were 20 per cent more likely to have asthma diagnosed as an adult than those who had not been exposed to any risk.
Those exposed only to high risk agents were 53 per cent more likely to have the condition, while those exposed to both types of agents were 34 per cent more likely to do so.
The high risk agents implicated were flour, enzymes, cleaning/disinfectant products, metal and metal fumes, and textile production.
All in all, the researchers calculated that 16 per cent of adult onset asthma among those born in the late 1950s could be explained by the types of jobs held.
